In celebration of World Water Day, the “Ward El Kheir” initiative was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI), Egyptian partner of RESWATER, marking an important step towards combining environmental sustainability with social empowerment.

Supported by the European Union, the initiative will train over 30 women and girls to transform harmful water hyacinth plants into eco-friendly decorative products. By turning an environmental challenge into an opportunity, the initiative promotes practical, community-driven solutions to water-related issues.

Through this programme, participants will be empowered to:

  • create new sources of income and develop small businesses
  • reduce environmental pollution caused by invasive water plants
  • contribute to sustainability through inclusive community action

During the launch, participants shared inspiring stories about how the initiative is expected to open new opportunities for improved livelihoods and greater independence.

By enabling women and girls to actively engage in addressing water challenges, the initiative contributes to building more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities. It also reflects the broader objectives of the RESWATER project, which promotes innovative and sustainable approaches to water management across the Mediterranean region.
