The latest round of MobiFix mobile-repair vocational training has concluded at the Don Bosco Institute in Alexandria, one of Egypt’s oldest technical schools with nearly 130 years of experience in technical and vocational education, marking another step towards strengthening local repair and refurbishment skills within the country’s circular electronics value chain.
The Don Bosco training builds on an earlier edition of MobiFix delivered at the Electro Misr School in Cairo, where around 120 students received training in mobile repair. The programme also included Training of Trainers sessions, equipping three Electro Misr educators to deliver the mobile repair course and helping establish the foundations for continued skills development within Egypt’s technical education system.
Developed under the UNIDO-led SWITCH2CE Programme, co-funded by the European Union and the Government of Finland, MobiFix strengthens local capacity for electronic repair and refurbishment in Egypt. Implemented by Circle Economy, Sofrecom, IECD Egypt and e-YOUTH, with technical support from Upgrade, the initiative helps extend the life of electronic devices while creating new skills and employment opportunities.
The latest MobiFix training brought together 74 students including 18 girls from Don Bosco and partner schools: Wardian Industrial School – Girls; Wardian Industrial School – Boys; Shatby Industrial School – Boys, and Ras Soda Industrial School – Boys. Their participation adds to the programme’s efforts to open new opportunities for young women in technical fields and encourage greater diversity in the repair sector. The programme also included a Training of Trainers for six teachers, creating a pool of educators able to continue delivering repair-related skills within the vocational education system.
