Yemen Euromed Police IV project officially launched

The launch of the Euromed Police IV project took place this week at Europol in The Hague, Netherlands. Euromed Police IV is a project that will improve the security of citizens in the EU and its southern partner countries, namely Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and Libya (Syria is temporarily suspended).
This EUR 5 million project will last for four years. It will increase strategic and operational cooperation among the participating countries and with the EU. Furthermore, it will focus on the countries’ needs to counter the major threats posed by terrorism and organised crime.
The project will be implemented by a consortium led by Civipol in close cooperation with Europol, Cepol and Interpol through the use of sustainable tools such as the European Platform of Experts, e-Net, the European Police Exchange Programme and the Interpol I24/7 global police communication system. These tools will be extended across the Euro-Mediterranean area to allow information sharing, cooperation and capacity building.
Maciej POPOWSKI Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations stressed: “The active involvement of Europol, CEPOL and Interpol in this project is a strong asset for the quality and sustainability of its results.”
The Euromed Police launch conference was timed to coincide with the European Police Chiefs Convention, which brought together high-level representatives and directors from the European and Euromed law enforcement services, allowing for exchanges at the highest level. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
