The first large container crossed the border with Jordan under the EU-sponsored shipping initiative. The EU, Palestinian authorities and businesses celebrated the occasion, stressing that shipping of 40-foot containers is a next step towards facilitating Palestinian trade and boosting its economy.
The new shipping method helps save time, money, reduce traffic, increase trade and revenues.
The shipment was enabled thanks to EU-facilitated dialogue, its funding for a new fork-lift placed at the crossing and UK subsidies for traders.
