Yemen Lebanon: CES-MED workshops to help cities and municipalities draft sustainable energy action plans

The EU-funded CES-MED project is to hold its first per country training activities in Beirut, Lebanon. Two workshops are scheduled for 20 and 21-22 September and will deal with the preparation and presentation of SEAPs (Sustainable Energy Action Plans) and SECAPs (Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans) to national authorities and municipalities.
The first one-day workshop, entitled: “Introducing the SEAP and SECAP Planning for sustainable energy for cities and municipalities”, will be held on 20 September in the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut. This workshop will be addressed to the heads of cities/municipalities and local authorities. The objective is to introduce the overall benefits, content and steps to prepare SECAPs and ways to finance SECAP projects. It will also promote the joining of international initiatives such as the Covenant of Mayors.
A second two-day Training of Trainers workshop, entitled “Technical steps for the preparation of SECAPs” will be held on 21-22 September in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Beirut. This workshop will be addressed to management and/or technical staff affiliated to national authorities and municipalities, who would act as supporters during the preparation of SECAPs, including those associated to future coordinators and supporters and technical affiliates to SEAP/SECAP Support Mechanisms. The aim is to thoroughly explain the content and the preparation modalities of SECAPs, with emphasis on conducting emissions inventories, specifying priority projects and conducting awareness raising and communication actions.
The “Cleaner and Energy Saving Mediterranean Cities” (CES-MED) project is an EU-funded regional initiative set up to provide training and technical assistance support to local and national authorities in the southern Mediterranean region, with a view to helping them respond more actively to sustainable policy challenges.
CES-MED ensures that the actions proposed match with the objectives of the Covenant of Mayors: to reach and even go beyond the European objective to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% thanks to the improvement of energy efficiency and the increased use of sustainable energy. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
