President von der Leyen is in Cairo to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza with the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
She was also there to hand over EU aid to the Egyptian Red Crescent. All made possible by a great cooperation with the Egyptian authorities and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Team Europe remains the largest aid donor to the Palestinian people.
- Over the last month, we have quadrupled our humanitarian aid to over €100 million.
- In addition, EU countries have provided €260 million.
- We have organised Humanitarian Air Bridge operations and completed 15 flights so far.
Egypt is working to get this humanitarian aid to Gaza via Rafah, truly a much needed lifeline to civilians in Gaza. We are also supporting Egypt as it helps wounded Palestinians.
