Yemen Statement of the European Union Delegation and diplomatic missions of EU Member States in Libya marking one year since the Storm Daniel tragedy
The Delegation of the European Union to Libya issues the following statement together with the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States in Libya:
One year ago, Derna and the surrounding areas were devastated by a catastrophic flood that brought immense suffering and loss. We reiterate our deepest sympathy to the families and communities affected by this tragic event. On this first anniversary, we are reminded of the remarkable and selfless generosity of Libyans who, from across the country, came together to provide much-needed relief to their fellow citizens. The European Union and its Member States were among the first partners supporting this inspiring national effort. Marking this sorrowful anniversary, we express our hope that the same spirit of unity will prevail as Libya faces new challenges that call for peaceful and consensus-based solutions.
