Yemen Tunisia: European Support combining Energy and Environment

Tunisian and European experts met on January 11 in Tunis (Tunisia) to draw lessons learnt from a large cooperation program linking energy and the environment. “This is a unique program enabling us to act on the core of the country’ sustainable development strategy, bringing together efforts aiming at protecting the environment and companies’ energy efficiency” said Laura Baeza, EU Ambassador to this country, when opening the works of a “feedback seminar”.
The “Environment & Energy” program in Tunisia was implemented with the support of the EU. A funding agreement was signed back in 2008 (providing a 33 million euro grant) and the project actually started in 2010. The program was completed in the end of 2015.
This program covered a wide range of areas related to protection of the environment, energy control and Tunisia’s sustainable development.
Tunisian priorities have well been taken in consideration such as “reducing industrial pollution pockets, promoting companies’ environmental upgrading efforts, protecting the coastline, as well as supporting better energy performance and promoting renewable energies aiming at mitigating the impacts of climate change” according to a statement published at the end of the seminar.
