Accelerating the Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Region: An Egyptian Perspective

Blessed with great renewable energy potential, particularly owing to high levels of solar irradiation and wind throughout the region, the Mediterranean region displays unique opportunities for the energy transition, which is (slowly) gaining momentum despite mixed results and speeds. The penetration of renewable energy is still limited compared to its potential and the region requires substantial investments and a forward-looking vision to undergo a stronger – yet gradual and orderly – energy transition.
