Israelis would like EU to play greater role in their country despite mixed perception, poll finds
Over half the Israelis asked (55%) believe the EU is an important partner of their country, however only a third of them (33%) have a positive perception of the EU and almost half (48%) consider their country’s relation with the EU bad, according to the findings of a survey carried out in the framework of the EU-funded EU Neighbours South project.
A majority of respondents would like the EU to play a greater role in their country in economic development (76%), trade (78%), human rights (53%), external policy and foreign affairs (67%) and regional cooperation (69%).
A large majority of Israelis (76%) are satisfied with their life whereas only half consider the economic situation in their country good (49%) and less (40%) are positive about employment.
This survey is part of the first series of opinion polls, conducted in seven EU Southern Neighbourhood partner countries: Algeria, Israel, Jordan Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia, looking, inter alia, at perceptions of, and attitudes towards the EU, level of information about the EU awareness of EU financial support as well as the general mood of respondents in the Southern Neighbourhood countries, including their views on current and future economic, employment and general life situations.
