Lebanese generally positive about EU, according to survey
Almost three quarters of Lebanese (72%) describe their country’s relations with the EU as good and nearly two thirds of them (64%) have a positive perception of the EU, according to the findings of a survey carried out in the framework of the EU-funded EU Neighbours South project.
A large majority of respondents would like the EU to play a greater role in their country in economic development (76%), trade (77%), human rights (82%), external policy and foreign affairs (66%) and regional cooperation (75%).
Most Lebanese (62%) are satisfied with their life but only 22% believe the economic situation in their country is good and only 18% are positive about the employment situation.
This survey is part of the first series of opinion polls, conducted in seven EU Southern Neighbourhood partner countries: Algeria, Israel, Jordan Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia, looking, inter alia, at perceptions of, and attitudes towards the EU, level of information about the EU awareness of EU financial support as well as the general mood of respondents in the Southern Neighbourhood countries, including their views on current and future economic, employment and general life situations.
