On 4–5 July, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica visited Egypt for a series of high-level meetings and engagements focused on strengthening EU–Egypt cooperation and advancing shared priorities across the Mediterranean region.

During the visit, Commissioner Šuica took stock of the implementation of the European Union–Egypt Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, highlighting progress and opportunities in key areas including investment, economic reforms, research and innovation, as well as initiatives supporting young people and creating new opportunities for future generations. The Commissioner also participated in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, where the Presidency was handed over to the European Parliament. At a time of increasing geopolitical uncertainty, the meeting underlined the important role of parliamentary cooperation in promoting dialogue, stability and stronger regional partnerships.

As part of her visit, Commissioner Šuica met with young people alongside the Anna Lindh Foundation and EU MedBridge to discuss flagship initiatives under the Pact for the Mediterranean. Discussions focused on opportunities for youth participation through initiatives such as the Youth Parliamentary Assembly for the Mediterranean, the Mediterranean University, and efforts to protect and promote the Mediterranean’s shared cultural heritage. The visit reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to working with Egypt and Mediterranean partners to build a more connected, resilient and inclusive region, with young people playing a central role in shaping its future.
