The re-election of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune marked the year 2024. Algeria’s presidential elections took place on September 7, 2024. These elections were characterized by low turnout and controversy over their legitimacy. The Constitutional Court announced a voter turnout of 11.2 million out of 24.3 million registered voters, specifying that 1.7 million votes were invalidated, resulting in a total of 9.4 million votes cast. However, the turnout, ultimately established at 23.3%, reflects the disinterest of a portion of the population in these elections. The two opposition candidates, Abdelaali Hassani Cherif and Youcef Aouchiche, represented an Islamist party and the Socialist Forces Front (FFS), respectively.
