The European Union and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan held a series of high-level meetings in Brussels on 14–15 October 2026, bringing together EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maroš Šefčovič, and Jordanian Minister of Investment, Tareq Abu Ghazaleh.
Jordan is a key partner for Europe in the Middle East and a cornerstone of regional stability. The visit took place in the framework of the implementation of the EU-Jordan Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, signed in January 2025, and preparations for the 1st Jordan–EU Investment Conference, scheduled for 19 November 2026 at the Dead Sea, Jordan. The conference will be opened by his Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The Conference will be the culmination of a series of high-level outreach and investment promotion events held across several EU Member States, building on the High-Level EU-Jordan Private Sector Roundtable held in Brussels in January 2026.
During their meeting on 15 October Commissioner Šuica and Minister Ghazaleh discussed on-going preparations for the upcoming Jordan–EU Investment Conference and efforts to further strengthen EU-Jordan economic cooperation and mobilise European private sector investment in Jordan. “The EU-Jordan Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership is about creating concrete opportunities for our people and businesses. The Investment Conference at the Dead Sea on 19 November will turn this ambition into action by bringing European and Jordanian investors together, showcasing Jordan’s investment potential and mobilising financing for projects that strengthen competitiveness, connectivity, and energy and water security. We see this Conference not simply as an event, but as a platform to unlock a new generation of European investment in Jordan.” said Commissioner Šuica.
“The European Union is one of Jordan’s leading economic partners, with bilateral trade in goods exceeding €6 billion in 2025. Our discussions in Brussels have shown a shared determination to turn the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership into tangible investment. Jordan offers European investors a stable gateway for the region, a reform driven environment and a pipeline of investment opportunities in water, energy, transport, logistics, ICT, manufacturing and other priority sectors under the Economic Modernisation Vision. The Jordan–EU Investment Conference on 19 November at the Dead Sea is the moment to move from dialogue to commitments, and we invite European companies and financial institutions to join us there and build lasting partnerships,” said Dr. Tareq Abu Ghazaleh, Minister of Investment of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Besides the meeting with the European Commissioners, Minister Abu Ghazaleh also participated in the Private Sector Roundtable organized by the Arab-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (ABLCC) with the participation of representatives from the Belgian Foreign Ministry and DG MENA. The roundtable provided an opportunity for direct engagement with the European private sector on investment opportunities in Jordan and potential partnerships ahead of the Jordan–EU Investment Conference.
The visit also provided an opportunity to present Jordan’s ongoing reforms to improve the business environment and enhance investment attractiveness, and to discuss opportunities to further strengthen trade and investment ties between the EU and Jordan.
