The European Union Delegation in Kuwait launched today (20 October 2026) the second edition of the EU cookbook (Union of European Flavours) at Si Restaurant. The recipes from all 27 EU Member States are a culinary collection showcasing the rich gastronomic heritage of the EU. To prepare this cookbook, every EU Member State’s Embassy to Kuwait was invited to share a recipe from their country. This cookbook is a celebration of the distinct and multiple culinary traditions in Europe. Food is an expression of European cultural identities, social lives and customs.
EU Ambassador to Kuwait Anne Koistinen said in her speech at the launch of the cookbook “We are delighted to launch the second edition of the cookbook (Union of European Flavours), at a year when the EU and Kuwait are marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. It is a partnership built on shared values, dialogue and cooperation. Another thing both the EU and Kuwait share is a deep appreciation for gastronomy and rich heritage of food traditions. Diversity is a defining feature of shared identity within the EU. Our culinary traditions are one important expression of it. They reflect the history, creativity and way of life of each country and region, and they have been passed down through generations. It is worth mentioning in this context that the EU maintains some of the world’s most rigorous food safety and quality standards.”
The event included a live culinary presentation by Chef Marco Vigonovo of Si Restaurant. The food offerings were inspired by European culinary heritage from all corners of Europe as well as Chef Marco’s journey through the tradition of the Mediterranean. His commitment to sustainability meant that the menu celebrated seasonal ingredients and local produce.
